Information From Bell Canada – 705 Rural Project
There are two stages of permissions (providing consent to either is not an obligation to sign up for service):
- Stage One – Infrastructure upgrade, permission to bring fibre and service pedestal up onto the property
- Stage Two – Consent to place a drop wire from the pedestal to the side of the residence
- You will be contacted to get permission to place a drop wire to the side of your property
- If you have any preference to where you would like the drop wire placed, you can let the Bell Sales Force Team know when they reach out to get this approval
We are currently in our design and permitting stage for the area:
- Currently our plan is to place equipment at least 3 metres off the shoreline – this helps avoid flooding with changing water levels
- From the shoreline to the pedestal box, we bury the cable
- We avoid high traffic areas like docks and beaches
- We work to “camouflage” the pedestal into the existing environment as best we can
- The pedestal is light green metal – 37” H x 24” W x 10” D
- Attached photos of some previous installations so you have an idea of what the equipment looks like:
- If you consent to the drop wire, we run it from the pedestal to the side of the residence doing our best to follow existing utilities so we avoid disrupting the environment
- These wires are about the diameter of a pen and are buried ~6” deep
- If there is too much rock we utilize the cervices within the rock and clip the drop wire in to avoid a safety concern
The below link is for the Government of Ontario website if you would like to learn more about the program.
The only thing to take note of is that this program is currently being subsidized by the government. This means while this program is running, to have the infrastructure installed there is no cost to the residents and as always there is no obligation to activate service. Once the work completes and construction crews are relocated the program is effectively over. This means if a resident said no to the upgrade (especially the submarine) and they change their mind in a year or 5 years from now there could be a cost to come back and install the infrastructure at that point.
The timeline for S51050 is January 2026 right now, depending on permits and material availability, as well as construction progress.
Subsequent clarification / feedback following Horn Lake consolidated questions:
- The timeline for project S51050 is January 2026, depending on permits and material availability, as well as construction progress.
- Yes this is fibre we are bringing to your property, so this will include high-speed internet as well as TV options.
- There is no charge for the infrastructure upgrade. With regards to monthly fees or equipment associated to the service inside the home that would all be provided by sales. Engineering does not have access to pricing for residents. Once service is available closer to the end of the year you would be able to use bell.ca or call into 310-BELL and they can let you know.
- The letters only went out to residents where we would be encroaching on private property to complete an equipment upgrade, such as placing a service pedestal or a new pole. It’s possible there are residents included in the project that would not receive a letter. I encourage anyone who is unsure to reach out to Bell at the email Bell705ruralinternet@bell.ca so I can validate.
- See above regarding the letters. If someone received a letter regarding equipment placement and they opt out but want to opt in later, they may face additional costing.
- Mailing addresses were based on primary residences.
